Roy has been a licensed attorney in the State of Illinois and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois since 1991.
He started his own practice in 1997 and has extensive experience working with a variety of different types of businesses and clients. Roy has a B.B.A. in Finance and Marketing from the University of Wisconsin, and he obtained his law degree from the Northwestern University School of Law, where he was a Note and Comment Editor for the Northwestern Journal of International Law and Business.
Roy has represented numerous commercial finance clients, lenders, banks and other financial institutions in both litigation and lending transactions. He has extensive experience managing commercial litigation cases involving commercial collections, replevins, evictions, mechanic's liens, commercial and residential real estate foreclosures. He has worked with clients in the development and preparation of estate plans and advising clients on the implementation of advanced estate preservation vehicles.
He has handled contract negotiations, real estate development and finance ventures, corporate structuring, raising venture capital, and has advised numerous start-up business and entrepreneurs in establishing their corporate entities, creating the strategic plans for capitalization and marketing. He has provided extensive representation to clients in other areas of the law including: purchase and acquisition of commercial and residential real estate; establishment and structure of their entities to provide the most efficient mechanism for raising capital through private placement offerings. Roy works with clients that have strong presences on the internet, advising them not only on their business issues, but also helping them navigate through the emerging field of internet law.
Roy is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, American Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association and the Decalogue Society of Lawyers. Roy is a certified contract advisor with the NFLPA, (National Football Players Association) the CFLPA (Canadian Football League Players Association) and is also a Co-chair of the Chicago Bar Association Sports Law Committee. He is a member of the American Bar Association's Sports and Entertainment Forum, The Sports Lawyers Association, the National Sports Marketing Network and the National Sports Law Institute.
Roy is on the Board of Directors of many civic and philanthropic organizations including UJC National Young Leadership Cabinet, JUF's Leadership Development Committee, Lawyers Division Steering Committee and Communications Division Steering Committee. He was a co-founder of the Darrell Pollack DP9 Foundation which provides benefits and services for children who have recently lost a parent ( www.dp9foundation.org ). Roy is also involved with numerous other local and regional community groups and philanthropic organizations. Roy lives in Buffalo Grove, Illinois and enjoys spending time with his daughter Julia and his son Brett.
